Things To DoIn nearby Richmond you'll discover the treasures of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and its extensive collections of paintings, furniture, jewelry and sculpture. The Science Museum of Virginia offers hands-on exhibits on aerospace, astronomy, chemistry, computers, electricity, physics and an Omnimax theater and planetarium. The stately Virginia State Capitol, designed by Jefferson, holds a marble statue of George Washington and busts of Jefferson and the seven other Virginia-born US presidents. The Museum of the Confederacy presents a history of slavery and the Civil War. Visiting the Virginia Holocaust Museum, you will find yourself transported back in time and experience actual events. The cobbled stone streets of the riverfront warehouse district, Shockoe Bottom, are lined with fine restaurants, shops and nightclubs. On the hill above is St. John's Church where Patrick Henry made his memorable "give me liberty or give me death" plea. Hollywood Cemetery, overlooking the James River, is the resting place of many historical figures and unusual monuments. Maymont Park offers gardens, a children's farm, nature center, wildlife exhibits and an aviary. Central Virginia is the home of many historical landmarks, battlefields, museums, theaters and recreation areas. The Virginia Cliffe Inn is within one hour of Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Williamsburg and Petersburg and the Busch Gardens and Water Country theme parks. Only 20 minutes from here, Kings Dominion is a fantastic amusment park to visit. It is a two hour drive to the Atlantic beaches, the Blue Ridge Mountains and Washington, D.C.
